Misogynistic Trash': Suburban Pastor Advising Donald Trump Condemns His Hot Mic Comments

"I cannot and will not offer help to a man who believes this kind of talk a minor error," Pastor James MacDonald wrote in an email.

A suburban pastor who is serving on the Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump's evangelical council harshly criticized the candidate for his vulgar sexual comments that were recorded in 2005.

James MacDonald — the senior pastor for Harvest Bible Chapel, a nondenominational evangelical megachurch with campuses throughout the Chicago area, including one in Crystal Lake — denounced Trump's remarks, saying they were "not just sophomoric or locker room banter."

"They are truly the kind of misogynistic trash that reveals a man to be lecherous and worthless …," MacDonald wrote in an email excerpted on Ed Stetzer's blog, The Exchange, for Christianity Today, an evangelical Christian magazine. Stetzer is the interim pastor for Moody Church in Chicago.

MacDonald of Rolling Meadows recently sent the email to other advisers on Trump's evangelical council, as well as people inside the campaign. But the pastor was sharing the message with others outside the Trump camp and "making no effort to keep these things private," he told Stetzer.

In the email, MacDonald, who has been married 33 years and has daughter two daughters-in-law, said Trump could no longer be defended "as simply foolish or loose lipped" after these latest comments. He also said he could not remain an adviser if Trump continued to be unrepentant for his words.

"I have spent my life helping men get free from such disgusting commentary on women — even writing my doctoral dissertation on self-disclosure of sin among men," he wrote. "I cannot and will not offer help to a man who believes this kind of talk a minor error."

In his blog, Stetzer wrote that he was privvy to the conversation that sprouted from MacDonald's email, adding, "I can assure you … James’ words are being discussed."
