More Than $13K Raised After Fire Destroys Family's CL Home
"We never expected to walk this very difficult road, and while it feels HARD, we have had such incredible support," the Keene family said.
CRYSTAL LAKE, IL—Despite the economic uncertainty the coronavirus pandemic has created, it hasn't stopped the Crystal Lake community from coming together to help some neighbors in need.
After a fire destroyed the Keene family's home on April 7, in less than a week, more than $13,000 have poured in on GoFundMe to help them rebuild. According to Erin Rische Sheridan, who organized the online fundraiser, the family lost several pets and many precious personal belongings in the blaze. Fortunately, the family was unharmed.
"God protected them, as the family was on a walk and are all safe. They are unsure of what the future holds and what this journey will look like, but this is a very rough time for such a thing to take place," Sheridan posted on the family's GoFundMe page. "While we are all 'stuck' at home, they have lost theirs."

According to the Northwest Herald, the fire started on the first floor of the family's house. Damages to the property are estimated to be around $150,000. The fire, smoke and water damage to the house has made it uninhabitable, Crystal Lake firefighters said.
"We never expected to walk this very difficult road, and while it feels HARD, we have had such incredible support from our family, friends and community, and it has made us feel so loved," the Keene family said. "This is such a testimony to our children that we have not lost everything, but instead have gained such strength through God, by way of those around us."
