Murder Charge Filed In Fatal Crash

A Chicago man is accused of intentionally causing a crash that killed a McHenry man last month.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A 42-year-old Chicago man faces murder and aggravated reckless driving charges for accusations he intentionally drove his Jeep into a cargo van last month. The charges were filed against William Bishop in connection with the May 18 collision that killed the driver of the Chevrolet cargo van, a 41-year-old McHenry man, and seriously injured a passenger in the van, a 56-year-old McHenry man, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.

A month-long investigation by the sheriff's office lead to the charges being filed against Bishop including first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery, reckless homicide, aggravated reckless driving and aggravated driving under the influence charges.

The collision happened in the 11500 block of Vanderkarr Road in unincorporated Hebron at 2:29 p.m. on May 18, authorities said. Bishop, who was driving the Jeep at the time of the crash, sustained serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Bishop's bail was set at $1 million, and he is next expected in court at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
