Newborn Suffers Brain Injury; Cary Father Charged: Police

CARY, IL — The father of a four-week-old baby faces aggravated battery to a child charges for allegations he seriously injured the boy, causing him to have a broken arm and a brain injury.
Tristan Johnson, 22, of Cary, was taken into custody on Friday and is being held on a $500,000 bail. He faces two charges of aggravated battery to a child charge.
The Cary Police Department launched an investigation into Johnson on Sunday after receiving information from the Department of Children and Family Services regarding the baby who they suspected was the victim of child abuse.

DCFS learned the baby was taken to the emergency room at a local hospital by a parent on Saturday evening after the boy began experiencing seizures or a similar medical event, according to a news release.
After the child was evaluated by emergency medical personnel, he was transported to Lutheran General Hospital’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for more advanced medical care.

The child sustained a broken arm and a brain injury, according to authorities. He has since been released from the hospital and care of the child is being coordinated by DCFS.
The baby is expected to make a full recovery, Scott Naydenoff, deputy chief of support services for the Cary Police Department, told Patch.
Authorities could not say whether the child lived alone with his father or if their were other adults and siblings in the home.
"I cannot comment on the family dynamic. All I can say is DCFS is ensuring the safety of the child through their processes," Naydenoff said.
An arrest warrant was issued for Johnson's arrest on Thursday, and he turned himself into Cary police on Friday. He was transported to the McHenry County Jail where he remains in custody on a $500,000 bail.
