Officers Recognized For 'Outstanding' Work on AJ Investigation
"The officers demonstrated a professional, urgent, and tireless work ethic over the course of seven days," city officials said.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — The Crystal Lake police officers tasked with investigating the death of Andrew "AJ" Freund were recognized during a city council meeting earlier this month. City officials praised their "outstanding service to the community" throughout the investigation.
"The officers demonstrated a professional, urgent, and tireless work ethic over the course of seven days," according to a post on the Crystal Lake Police Department Facebook page. "We show our gratitude and appreciation to all those involved in this case."
The 5-year-old Crystal Lake boy was first reported missing on April 17 by his father, which lead to massive search for the boy. AJ's body was found a week later buried in a shallow grave near Woodstock. His parents, Joann Cunningham and Andrew Freund Sr., have been charged in connection with his death.
