One Injured Following Explosion, Fire at Home Near Crystal Lake

The home just east of Crystal Lake was destroyed in the blaze.

One person has been taken to the hospital after an explosion and fire caused $300,000 in damage to a home just east of Crystal Lake early Tuesday.

The family of nine living at 6015 Blue Court in unincorporated Crystal Lake heard an explosion coming from the basement at 6:34 a.m. and were all able to get out, according to the Northwest Herald and fire officials. Two dogs did not make it out of the fire, the newspaper reports.

When firefighters arrived, they found the single-family residence fully engulfed in flames. Nineteen area fire departments responded to assist at the scene.

One resident was treated and transported to a hospital with “undisclosed injuries,” according to a Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department press release. He was injured while climbing out of a window to escape the fire, according to the Northwest Herald. No firefighters were injured.

The State Fire Marshal has been notified and the blaze remains under investigation.
