Plane Makes Emergency Landing On Road In Cary

CARY, IL — A single-engine airplane made an emergency landing on Cary-Algonquin Road in Cary Monday morning after its engine failed while enroute to the Lake in the Hills Airport.

No one was injured, and no property was damaged in the incident, which occurred at about 8:20 a.m., according to a Cary Police Department news release.

An officer on patrol in the area of Cary-Algonquin Road and Fox Trails Drive noticed the small plane flying at a low altitude and saw the propeller of the single-engine plane had stopped rotating.

The plane, which took off from the DuPage Airport and was enroute to the Lake in the Hills Airport, landed safely on the road shortly after the engine failed. A 26-year-old woman, who is a flight instructor, and a 21-year-old woman, who was a flight student, were inside the plane, police said.

Traffic was diverted around the location for about 90 minutes until the plane could be removed from the road, according to a news release.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Traffic Safety Board has been notified regarding the incident and will determine if a further investigation is needed.
