Attempted Murder, Home Invasion Charges Filed In Stabbing

A 35-year-old Crystal Lake man is in custody in connection with the stabbing of a 29-year-old Crystal Lake man.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — Bond has been set at $1 million for a 35-year-old Crystal Lake man accused of stabbing someone from a household in which he was a former member, authorities said Friday.

Michael Vrba is charged with attempted first-degree murder, home invasion, residential burglary and aggravated domestic battery in connection with the incident, which occurred Thursday in the 6000 block of Acorn Court in unincorporated Crystal Lake.

McHenry County sheriff's deputies were called to the area at 6:22 a.m. to assist with a rescue call. When deputies arrived, they found a 29-year-old Crystal Lake-area man with stab wounds, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

The man was first taken to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital, then flown by helicopter to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he remained in serious but stable condition, authorities said.

After investigating, authorities arrested Vrba, whom they referred to as a former member of the stabbing victim's household, according to the news release.
