Prairie Ridge Basketball Coach Stole From Elderly Woman: Police

Rick Lima is accused of stealing more than $65,000 worth of assets from an elderly woman over the summer.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL – The varsity girls basketball coach for Prairie Ridge High School has been arrested for exploiting an elderly woman and taking more than $65,000 worth of assets from her over the summer, authorities said. Rick Lima, 50, of the 700 block of Nashua Court in Crystal Lake, has been charged with financial exploitation of an elderly person over 70 years old.

Lima allegedly used more than $15,000 worth of assets belonging to the woman and also took $50,000 from the same woman on July 10, according to the Northwest Herald. Lima has been the varsity girls basketball coach at Prairie Ridge High School since January 2016.

He was arrested Tuesday after authorities obtained a warrant and searched his home, according to the Northwest Herald. Lima has posted his bail, which was set at $75,000, and was released from custody.

He is next expected in court on Feb. 7.
