McHenry 'Coffee With Questions' to Focus on Humanities, Spirituality

Prof. Therese Hart leads a series of Sunday morning discussions at at Tree of Life Unitarian Universalist Congregation in McHenry.

Professor Therese Hart, an instructor in the arts and humanities at Harper College in Palatine is leading a series of Sunday morning adult discussions at Tree of Life Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 5603 Bull Valley Road in McHenry in July as the Congregation focuses on the arts. That focus will culminate in its Celebration of the Arts exhibition and sale on July 30 and 31.

Hart moderate sessions every Sunday morning from 9:15 to 10:30 am as part of the regular Coffee With Questions discussion. These thought provoking and freewheeling discussions are open to the public at no charge.

Hart is a full-time faculty member in the Humanities Department at Harper College in Palatine. She received her BFA and MA from Ohio University and did her Ph.D. studies at Penn State, all in Art History. Professor Hart teaches courses related to art, literature, music, theater, and philosophy from Prehistory to the present from many traditions and places around the globe. Her current research is on Indigenous Cultures of the Americas. Therese is a member of the Tree of Life Congregation in, and an active member of the Adult Choir, and the leader of the Women’s Circle Book Group.

Her first session on July 3 was Sacred Spaces: from Caves to Cathedrals. Up coming discussions include Storytelling: Oral Traditions, Mythology, Literature and More on July 10; Music on July 17; Theater and Performance Art on July 24; and Amateur or Professional, Fine Art or Folk Art, What’s the Difference? On July31. It is not necessary to attend every session to get the most out of each discussion.

Coffee with Questions precedes 10:45 morning worship in the Sanctuary. Participants in the discussions are welcome for services, but attendance is not required. On July 31 worship will be held under a tent on the grounds and will explore art and spirituality. The Celebrate Art sale will be open inside the building and on the grounds until 4 p.m.
