Reptiles Die In Townhome Fire: Fire Officials
A fire left three townhouse units uninhabitable and numerous animals dead on Friday in Lakemoor, fire officials said.

A fire left three townhouse units uninhabitable and numerous animals dead on Friday in Lakemoor, fire officials said. The Wauconda Fire District responded around 5:22 p.m. Friday to the 31600 block of Tallgrass Court in Lakemoor for a report of a structure fire.
Firefighters arrived and found flames and smoke coming from the garage of a townhome. The fire spread quickly throughout the primary unit and caused smoke damage to two adjoining units.

The fire was deemed under control within 45 minutes, but crews remained at the scene for 2 ½ hours extinguishing hot spots and completing overhaul.
One unit and all of its content were a total loss. Numerous reptiles and amphibians died in the fire. One person was evaluated at the scene for minor injuries that did not require hospitalization.

The primary unit and two adjoining units were deemed uninhabitable and the Red Cross was called to assist displaced residents.

The fire remains under investigation and a damage estimate was not immediately available.
Firefighters from McHenry, Fox Lake, Grayslake, Countryside, Libertyville, Round Lake, Mundelein and Wonder Lake assisted at the scene.
The Barrington-Countryside, Fox River Grove, Algonquin, and Antioch fire departments covered calls in Wauconda during the fire.
