Semi Driver Dies In Rollover Crash; Sludge Spills Onto Road

The 72-year-0ld Woodstock man died following the collision on Route 173 in Antioch Township Sunday afternoon.

ANTIOCH TOWNSHIP, IL — A 72-year-old semi truck driver was killed when he crashed on Route 173 near Antioch on Sunday, authorities said. The 1990 Peterbilt semitruck was headed west on Route 173 at Converse Road in Antioch Township when it crossed into the eastbound lanes and hit a guardrail, causing the trailer to rail over and 25 pounds of granular sludge it was carrying to spill out, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

The driver, a 72-year-old Woodstock man, was extricated from the cab by paramedics and taken to Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry where he was later pronounced dead. The McHenry County Coroner's Office is in the process of scheduling an autopsy.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
