Strong Thunderstorms, Hail, Heavy Wind Expected Today

The Chicago suburbs could get hit hard today by strong thunderstorms.

The Chicago area is expected to get hit by severe thunderstorms Thursday.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Kane, Will, Lake, McHenry, Cook, Kendall and DuPage counties with the greatest threat of thunderstorms expected between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. The strongest storms could bring hail up to the size of half dollars and locally damaging wind gusts of up to 60 mph.

The chance of an isolated brief tornado can also not be ruled out, according to the National Weather Service. The greatest risk of severe weather is over northwest Indiana and south of Interstate 55 in Illinois.
