SUV Driver Charged In Fatal DUI Crash In Crystal Lake: Cops

A motorcyclist was killed in the Tuesday afternoon collision on Route 31.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — A 69-year-old Crystal Lake man faces aggravated driving under the influence charges after he drove drunk Tuesday afternoon and cauased a three-vehicle collision that killed a motorcyclist, authorities said Thursday. The collision happened at 4:38 p.m. when a black sports utility vehicle, which was headed north on Route 31 near Drake Drive, collided with a northbound silver SUV.

The silver SUV then crossed into the southbound lanes of traffic and hit the motorcycle. The motorcyclist was taken to Northwestern Hospital in McHenry where he was later pronounced dead, according to a news release from the Crystal Lake Police Department.

The name of the motorcyclist has not yet been released as authorities work to identify the man's family members.

The driver of the black SUV, Robert A. Roth, 69, has been arrested and charged with several drunken driving charges in connection with the crash. He was transpoerted to the McHenry County Jail to await a bond hearing and is next expected in court at 9 a.m. on June 18.
