Teens Cited, Man Charged After Driving Away From Police In Harvard HS Incident

Authorities said that a man was charged and three juveniles were cited after fleeing from police during an attempted break-in to the press box at Harvard High School.

Harvard Deputy Police Chief Tyson Bauman said that officers observed subjects near the baseball announcer’s box at Harvard High School, 1103 North Jefferson Street, around 1:43 a.m. March 29.

The officers began investigating and discovered damage to the door that appeared to be from the group attempting to gain entry inside. The subjects fled the scene in a 1998 Jeep when officers attempted to stop the vehicle, Bauman said.

The vehicle failed to stop and officers terminated the stop after the Jeep committed several traffic infractions.

Harvard police officers and the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle and its occupants a short time later at Telegraph Street and Deerpass Road in Marengo, Bauman said.

Bryan Santiago, 18, of the 200 block of West Brainard Street in Harvard, was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated fleeing to elude a peace officer, two counts of endangering the life or health of a child and criminal damage to state support property.

Santiago was also issued traffic citations for no valid driver’s license, failure to carry driver’s license or permit on person, five counts of disobeying a stop sign, improper lighting – no headlights, and speeding 21-25 mph over the limit.

Santiago was transported to the McHenry County Jail where he was released after posting 10% of his $5,000 bond.

Two people in the vehicle, a 12-year-old boy and 15-year-old boy, were taken into custody and issued a non-traffic notice to appear citation for violating curfew. The two boys were released to their parents and will appear in court on May 18.

A 16-year-old Harvard girl was also located during the investigation and issued a non-traffic notice to appear citation for violating curfew. She was released to her parent and will also appear in court on May 18.
