Following the verdict today that former Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) employee Carlos Acosta was found guilty of child endangerment in the death of AJ Freund in 2019, State Representative Tom Weber (R-Lake Villa) issued the following statement in response:

“This guilty verdict has been a long time coming, but nothing will ever replace the loss of little AJ or diminish the pain our communities have endured. I will not give up the fight until DCFS gets the overhaul it so badly needs, and the department finally lives up to its duty to protect our most vulnerable children.”

Before his tragic death, AJ Freund lived in the 64th House District, represented by Weber.
