Woman Sentenced To Prison For Drug-Induced Homicide

Durelle Hall, 26, of Woodstock, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison.

WOODSTOCK, IL -- A 26-year-old Woodstock woman has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for selling the heroin that ended up killing a 20-year-old local woman two years ago. Durelle Hall was found guilty of drug-induced homicide in July for her role in providing the drugs that killed Chelsie Kumm, 20, and Hall was sentenced on Friday. Kumm fatally overdosed after shooting heroin into her jugular vein on the evening of Oct. 6, 2015, in the Marengo home she shared with her boyfriend and his mother, the Chicago Tribune reports.

The heroin she ingested had been laced with fentanyl, according to a McHenry County State's Attorney's Office press release. An investigation into the death by the Marengo Police Department revealed the victim had purchased the heroin from Hall, according to prosecutors.

Laurie Cool recalled during Hall's trial on how she found Kumm slumped over the edge of a bed in her Marengo home, according to the Chicago Tribune.

"I tried to pull her up. I started screaming," said Cool, who was the mother of Kumm's boyfriend.

Hall faces many more charges in McHenry County including delivery of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school, unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and unlawful possession with intent to deliver cannabis.
