Coroner IDs Man Killed While Crossing Route 47

The accident happened Saturday night in unincorporated Woodstock.

A 28-year-old Woodstock man who was killed after being struck by a pickup truck in unincorporated Woodstock on Saturday night has been identified as Eduardo M. Olivia Masse, according to the McHenry County Coroner's Office.

A preliminary investigation shows that at 11:10 p.m. on Nov. 19 a 2011 Ford F150 was headed north on Illinois Route 47 at Cooney Road when the truck struck a pedestrian who had been crossing the roadway at the time, according to a McHenry County Sheriff’s Office press release.

The roadway is unlit and there is no crosswalk on Route 47. The pedestrian, who has been identified as Masse, was treated at the scene by sheriff’s office personnel and the Woodstock Fire Protection District. He later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

An autopsy performed on Monday revealed Masse died of blunt force injuries to the head, chest and abdomen, according to the coroners office. Toxicology is pending on the pedestrian through the coroner’s office, authorities said.

The driver of the 2011 Ford, a 56-year-old male, sustained no injuries in the crash. He was wearing his safety belt and airbags did not deploy.

The driver is not suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to authorities.

The investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigations Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
