Athlete Of The Week: Kim Warpecha
Hinsdale South senior Kim Warpecha has qualified for state in tennis twice and has worked her way back up again through back surgery and other injuries. She hopes to lead the Hornets to another conference title and maybe even more.

Hinsdale South senior Kim Warpecha has had a high school tennis career filled with high and lows. The highs? Qualifying for state twice. And the lows? Having back surgery, forcing her to miss all of 2009.
As Hornets coach Dana Graczyk will tell you, however, she is one tough athlete. “She’s the hardest worker on the team. She’s really come back strong in practice this year. She’s a good kid and a good student.”
Returning from back surgery is no mean feat and has derailed many a tennis career, but Warpecha’s determination, hard work and athleticism have paid off. So far in 2011, she is 4-2 in doubles matches, including her 6-1, 6-2 win over Downers Grove North with partner Andrea Wakim. She is Darien’s athlete of the week.
