Man With Darien Links Accused In $22M Embezzlement Case: Prosecutors (patch.com) — Darien readers may recognize the name of a former local business operator now accused of embezzling more than $22 million while leading an Illinois railcar management company. Federal prosecutors say the 69-year-old, who once ran a business on Plainfield Road in Darien and now lives in Maryland, allegedly diverted client funds to personal accounts, including to cover gambling expenses, and faces a federal wire fraud charge.

3. 77-Year-Old Darien Man Charged With Domestic Battery (patch.com) — Darien police report that a 77-year-old local resident was arrested on two domestic battery counts and taken to the DuPage County Jail. Officers also charged a LaSalle man with meth possession after a suspicious-person call and cited a Romeoville driver for marijuana possession in a car parked at Lace Elementary School before releasing him with a court date.
   

4. Darien-Willowbrook Petroleum Discharge Under Investigation (patch.com) — A petroleum spill traced to Darien's storm sewer system has contaminated a Willowbrook pond near Lake Hinsdale Village, prompting an ongoing multi-day cleanup involving both towns, DuPage County, and the Illinois EPA. Crews have identified used diesel fuel and motor oil, are also cleaning part of Darien's Dale Basin, and officials say they won't yet speculate on who is responsible.
