White Fire Hydrants? Darien Explains

The city fields calls about the changed color of hydrants.

DARIEN, IL — Some of Darien's fire hydrants were painted white recently, and residents called City Hall for an explanation. After all, white hydrants may be hard to find when it snows.

The city took to social media to explain the changed color.

"The white you are seeing is the primer before they get painted red," the city said on the Nextdoor app.
