Why Celebrate the End of a School Year?

Preschoolers from St. John Lutheran Early Learning Center in Darien enjoy an end of year picnic in the park with their family and teachers.

The coming of summer brings the end of the school year. It is a time marked by teachers with special events that do much more than keep excited children constructively engaged until the last day. Closure activities cement the experiences of the year. Having children positively recall their accomplishments encourages them to transition to the next grade with confidence.

Preschoolers attending St. John Lutheran Early Learning Center (ELC) at 7214 South Cass Avenue in Darien celebrate the year’s end with a picnic and closing program to which all family members are invited. Both events provide opportunities for the children to reflect on the learning experiences they shared. They are able to see the growth they have made in terms of what they can do now that they could not do before.

The ELC offers half-day preschool and pre-kindergarten programs with the availability of before and after school extended care. They also have on-site enrichment classes that are open to all community preschoolers whether or not they attend the school. Six one-week half-day thematic summer camps will be offered this year.
