• Illinois EPA hosting household hazardous waste next month in Decatur (wcia.com) — Macon County residents will have a free chance to clear out dangerous household chemicals when the Illinois EPA hosts a hazardous waste collection at Progress City in Decatur on Saturday, Oct. 24. With pre-registration required, locals can safely drop off items like oil-based paints, pesticides, and old gasoline, while following simple packing rules to keep everyone safe during transport. 
• 'We Are Community Fund' Distributes $18K to Decatur charities for Labor Day (wandtv.com) — Decatur nonprofits are sharing an $18,000 boost from the 'We Are Community Fund,' helping groups like Meals on Wheels, Good Samaritan Inn, Webster Cantrell Hall, and the Boys and Girls Club keep serving neighbors. The Mid-Illinois Labor Council timed the grants with Labor Day, highlighting how good wages and union support can flow back into food banks, youth programs, and other vital services.
