5 DHS Students Awarded Rumick Scholarships
Submissions were so impressive in 20th year of memorial scholarship, five awards were given out.

The Tracey Beth Rumick Memorial Scholarship has awarded academically motivated Deerfield High School students with an interest in working with children for 20 years.
So this year, partly due to the essay submissions being so good, five scholarships were presented instead of one. Scholarships were awarded to Jamie Clarke, Jason Clarke, Joshua Mendelson, Theodore Shapira and Colette Tonner.

The scholarship is named after Tracey Beth Rumick, a DHS alum who was killed tragically while away at college in the 1990s.
It was founded by Ellyce Rumick, Tracey’s mother. She and Susan Nathan and Amy Lubeck (Tracey’s sisters) select the recipient every year.

“We changed the format this year and loved what these students wrote,” Ellyce Rumick said. “All of the graduating students are so fortunate to have caring parents that have provided love, support and direction that have chosen Deerfield with its excellent school system.”
According to District 113 information, Rumick was “an individual who exhibited spirit for living, love for people and a sincere compassion in helping others in need.”
