Great Used Bike Round-up and Ice Cream Social

The Deerfield Optimist Club is sponsoring a used bike round-up in coordination with Working Bikes. The ingathering of used kids or adult bicycles takes place on Saturday, August 15 from 9-noon next to the Jewett Park playground at the NW corner of Hazel Road, Deerfield. An Ice Cream social follows the event from 12-3 at the Jewett Park Pavilion, behind the Deerfield Farmer’s Market.

Just like the Deerfield Optimist Club whose mission is to help youth, Working Bikes is a Chicago-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to giving new life to old bikes in any condition. Since 1999, Working Bikes volunteers, staff, partners, and supporters have rescued and redistributed over 150,000 bikes both locally and internationally. By donating repurposed bikes to tens of thousands of Chicagoans along with men, women and children in Africa, Mexico, Albania, and Latin America, Working Bikes has provided reliable, sustainable transportation and fostered economic development.

Along with the bike round-up the Deerfield Optimist Club is celebrating summer by providing free ice cream bars, ice cream sandwiches, popsicles, and cones to the community from 12-3. The event is open to kids of all ages!!! Join the fun for music, games and ice cream.
