Potential medical marijuana dispensaries in Deerfield will be limited to to parts of the Deerbrook Shopping Center, Cadwell Corners Shopping Center, commercially zoned areas on Waukegan Road between Lake Cook Road and Kates Road, some portions of Pfingsten Road and some areas on Embassy Way south of Lake Cook Road if a village ordinance in the works is approved once written, the Deerfield Review reports.

In line with all other state restrictions regarding these types of businesses, the Deerfield ordinance will add one more: making sure a dispensary is at least 1,000 feet away from parks, while the state’s requirement is that it can be located anywhere more than 500 feet away.

That limits the potential area to the aforementioned districts on the southeast side of the village.

Mayor Harriet Rosenthal also added during discussion that although the village could conceivably have two dispensaries, as portions of the village are located in Cook and Lake counties - she would like to make sure there “will only be one.”
