The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Board of Directors has recognized the Deerfield High School wrestling program for “setting a high standard for other schools to follow during the regular season and post season play” in regards to sportsmanship, head coach Marc Pechter announced in an email Monday.
The recognition means a “Do What’s Right! State Final Sportsmanship Banner” will be displayed in either the Exhibition Gym or IM Gym (wrestling room).

“We have had many great accomplishments this season on the mat but I extremely proud that with all that success we are able to be recognized by the IHSA for being classy, respectful, and having good sportsmanship,” Pechter said. “Many teams win, some teams win a lot, but few times can say that they do both with dignity and class like the Deerfield Wrestling Nation (DWN) does.”
In 2015, the Warriors reached the Team State Tournament for the first time in program history.
