Domestic Dispute Includes Gun Removal From Home: Riverwoods PD Blotter

A clear and present danger form was submitted to the Illinois State Police following the incident earlier this month.

RIVERWOODS, IL — The following information comes from the Riverwoods Police Department and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court.

Every person arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

  • Kortez R. Delaney, 34, of the 600 block of 38th Street, Chicago, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane usage, and was arrested at 7:28 a.m. Feb. 17, at Saunders and Lake Cook roads. Police were summoned to the area following a report of a car stopped in traffic facing southbound in the northbound lanes of Saunders Road. Delaney was released on a $3,000 bond and was assigned a court date of March 8.
  • Derrick Dewayne Henry, 38, of the 200 block of N. County State, Waukegan, is accused of speeding, open transportation of alcohol, driving while license revoked, driving under the influence of alcohol, and was arrested at 2:10 a.m. Feb. 19 near Lake Cook and Portwine roads. He was released on a $3,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on March 22.
  • Grace Elizabeth Prendergast, 24, of the 5800 block of Constitution Avenue, Gurnee, is accused of speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, and was arrested at 1:54 a.m. Jan. 23, near Lake Cook and Portwine roads. She was released on a $3,000 bond and was assigned a court date of Feb. 22.
  • Nathan R. Zihala, 23, of the 1100 block of Russellwood Court, Buffalo Grove, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, operating an unsafe vehicle, and was arrested at 6:10 p.m. Jan. 24, near Deerfield and Saunders roads. He was also charged with leaving the scene of a property damage accident by the Buffalo Grove Police Department. Police found Zihala's car being driven with heavy front-end damage, including a missing front tire. He was released on a $3,000 bond and was assigned a court date of Feb. 22.

UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF CANNABIS

Nicholas C. Lopardo, 25, of the 37500 block of N. Alpine Lane, Lake Villa, is accused of felony unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver (more than 30 grams, but not more than 500 grams), and was arrested at 12:05 a.m. Feb. 12, near Deerfield and Saunders roads. He was taken to bond court. A future court date was to be determined at the time of the report.

INCIDENTS

DOMESTIC DISPUTE

Police were summoned to a domestic dispute at 1 a.m. Feb. 14, involving an angry, intoxicated person who owned several firearms. With consent, officers removed three rifles and three handguns from the home. Based on the responding officers’ observations and what they learned about the gun owner, police went before a Lake County Judge at 9:30 a.m. and obtained a firearms restraining order, suspending the gun owner’s Firearm Owners Identification card for six months. The order was served to the gun owner at noon, when officers responded to another domestic dispute at the home. An additional handgun was confiscated along with the subject’s FOID card. A clear and present danger form was submitted to the Illinois State Police that morning, resulting in the revocation of the person’s FOID card on Feb. 17.
