Final Basketball Game at Berto Center Will Benefit Fallen Fox Lake Lt. Joseph Gliniewicz

Deerfield police will face Deerfield-Bannockburn fire in game coaches by former, current Chicago Bulls.

The final basketball game to ever take place at the Berto Center - the former practice home of the Chicago Bulls in Deerfield - will be between two local agencies and benefit the family of Fox Lake police Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz, who was killed in the line of duty earlier this month.

Members of the Deerfield Police Department and the Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Department will take the court at 8 p.m. on Friday, September 18, according to the Deerfield Review.

“We decided this would be a great way to do a benefit for his family,” said Sean Cannon, CEO of Event Creative, which owns the Berto Center’s complex at 550 Lake Cook Road and who will soon transform the basketball court into an elegant event venue.

Former Bulls player and current announcer Bill Wennington will coach the police and current play Kirk Hinrich will lead the fire department. Famous Chicago Blackhawks national anthem singer Jim Cornelison has agreed to sing the anthem for the game. Other Bulls players and celebrity referees are still being sought for the event, according to Cannon.

A reception will precede the game at 6 p.m. General admission tickets are available for $75, with a VIP package available for $300. Children under 16 are $25.

All proceeds will benefit the family of Gliniewicz, who died in the line of duty on September 1, sparking an extensive manhunt for three suspects who have yet to be captured. Purchase tickets here.
