Identity Thief Who Scammed Deerfield Woman Avoids Jail Time
A Hazel Crest woman has instead pled guilty to a misdemeanor and will have to perform public service.

A woman who pled guilty to stealing a Deerfield woman’s identity will avoid jail time and instead have to perform 50 hours of public service and find employment.
Taja T. Bryant, 26, whose last known address was in Hazel Crest, pled guilty to a misdemeanor identity theft charge on May 27, according to the Deerfield Review.
She was arrested by Deerfield police on May 12 on a felony charge, being accused of making a purchase at Walmart.com with another person’s credit card.

The victim informed police nine months ago she gave her credit card information to a caller from a collection agency seeking payment for an unpaid medical bill on August 6, with the unauthorized charge occurring later that night.

A subsequent investigation showed that the Walmart transaction occurred in Bryant’s home and that she was the one who made the call to the victim through her place of employment, which at the time was a collections agency.
Bryant could serve jail time if she breaks the terms of her plea.
