The Latest Techniques to Help Those Affected, Their Loved Ones and Healthcare Professionals
Senior Helpers Providing Free Educational Presentations to Healthcare Professionals and the Public on Dementia / Alzheimer's Disease
order to meet the educational needs of professionals and the public, Senior Helpers -the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) CARES affiliate office for the Chicago area-offers eight different programs focusing on dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. The purpose of these programs is to help maximize care for individual affected and to assist the family, caregivers and professional healthcare provides working with them.
To date, Bob Tucker, a qualified dementia care provider (QDCP) and co-owner of Northbrook-based Senior Helpers, has given nearly 40 presentations, including several to nurses and social workers at local hospitals. Here are the highlights of two upcoming family programs that are open to the public.
On Tuesday, February 24, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., there will be a presentation at The Abington of Glenview, 3901 Glenview Road, in Glenview. Tucker will speak about what is normal aging versus aging with dementia, the physiological and cognitive changes that occur, helping determine the stage of dementia and what to watch for in the future. He will also provide techniques in helping manage difficult behaviors and ways to improve the lives of those suffering with dementia and their families.

For those unable to attend the presentation at The Abington, they can join Senior Helpers at The Wealshire, 150 Jamestown, Lincolnshire, March 26 from 5:30-7:00 p.m.
People who attend either program will receive a free, award-winning DVD on dementia featuring Teepa Snow, MS, OTL/R, FAOTA one of the leading dementia educators in the U.S. today, as well as other educational materials. There will be time for questions at the end of the presentation and a tour of the facilities will be available. Snacks will be provided.

“My purpose in presenting these programs is to provide information for professionals, families, friends and caregivers on how to recognize the symptoms of Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s and other dementias, and how to make life more enjoyable for their loved one, patient or client,” says Tucker.
