Brad Schneider Defeats Nancy Rotering in 10th District U.S. Congress Democratic Primary

With win over Nancy Rotering, former 10th District Congressman Brad Schneider can prep for rubber-match with incumbent Bob Dold.

Former Illinois 10th District U.S. Congressman Brad Schneider, D-Deerfield will have a chance to take on incumbent Bob Dold yet again after defeating Highland Park Mayor in the Democratic primary Tuesday.

Final tallies from Lake County indicate Schneider receiving 53.66 percent of the vote, with 38,210 votes total. Rotering compiled 33,000 votes, accounting for 46.34 percent.

In Cook County, Schneider received 54.17 percent (11,893 votes) to Rotering's 45.83 percent (10,062).

Rotering conceded Wednesday morning, calling Schneider to congratulat him after all the votes were tallied.

"These results should not deter us in continuing to fight on behalf of our neighbors and our communities," she wrote in an e-mail to supporters Wednesday. "We know that there are many opportunities in our district to move forward, to improve our quality of life, and to advocate for those who do not have a strong voice."

The race, not unlike other 10th District battles in recent years, has been hotly contested. A call center operation opened by Schneider in Rotering’s hometown recently was shut down within days after an alleged code violation was made.

With the win, Schneider will face current 10th District U.S. Congress office holder Bob Dold in November. It will be the third consecutive 10th District general election cycle to feature Dold as the Republican nominee and Schneider as the Democrat. In 2012, Schneider unseated Dold and two years later Dold unseated Schneider.
