Mitchell Pool Set To Reopen Following Coronavirus Closure

The Deerfield pool closed on July 27 after a staff member was diagnosed with COVID-19.

DEERFIELD, IL — Mitchell Pool will be reopening Monday, exactly two weeks after closing due to a staff member being diagnosed with the coronavirus. The Deerfield Park District made the announcement Tuesday, stating "our staff members are doing well, and we do not have any additional reported COVID-19 test results."

When the pool closed on July 27, the district said at the time it did not believe any member of the public had "close contact" with the employee, as defined by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. A second member of the staff was also exhibiting coronavirus symptoms when the decision to shut down was made.

According to a press release from the district, "the team has been working hard" to develop additional safety enhancements to further reduce close contact and risk of exposure onsite. The facility was fully sanitized, cleaned and has been vacant since July 27.
