North Suburban Police Departments Honor Dallas Officers
The head of state's chief of police group asks officers to wear black bands over badges to mourn the 5 killed in Thursday's shooting.
In the wake of Thursday's shootings in Dallas that left five police officers dead, North Shore and other northern suburban police departments showed their support for the victims, as well as their colleagues in law enforcement Friday.
Buffalo Grove Police Chief Steven Casstevens, president of the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, asked for officers across the state to wear black bands around their badges until the funerals of the Dallas police officers who were killed Thursday.

"These officers died while protecting and facilitating our nation’s bedrock principles—freedom of speech and, ironically, the freedom to assemble peaceably," Casstevens wrote in a statement Friday. "Yesterday these officers left home to protect their fellow citizens, and tragically, they never returned to their families."
