According to NWS, possible flooding of the river affects northern Cook and Lake counties at Lincolnshire; as well as central and northern Cook County near Des Plaines.

A flood watch is in effect for Riverside and River Forest, which pertains to the Central Cook zone.

In Des Plaines, officials said the public works, fire and police departments are coordinating efforts aimed at resident safety and reducing property damage.

Residents who want to protect their property can pick up sandbags at the Public Works facility at 1111 Joseph Schwab Road. According to the city, Public Works may also set up remote sandbag filling stations in areas affected by flooding as conditions develop.

At the time of the city notice, there were no road closures in place. Still, the city said lane closures or full road closures may occur if conditions worsen. Public safety officials expect significant traffic delays near the Des Plaines River, and drivers are being advised to avoid the area until further notice.

NWS said people along rivers and streams in the watch area should monitor the latest forecasts and be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
