Audition for Oakton’s production of “I and You” – a study of young love

Auditions for Oakton's production of "I and You" are scheduled August 30-31.

Shine on stage in Oakton Community College’s production of “I and You.” Auditions are scheduled 6 - 9 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 30, and Wednesday, Aug. 31, at Studio One, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines. Cold readings and contemporary comedic monologues less than two minutes in length will be heard. No appointment necessary.

The play is a finely-crafted study on the romantic notion that opposites attract, and the director plans on casting a man and woman of different ethnicities to play the parts of the 17-year-old characters. Caroline is a tech-savvy, self-sufficient type who has become defensive due to a debilitating illness that has kept her out of school for months. Anthony is popular and athletic, but awkward around girls. He also is of another race and a fan of Walt Whitman and jazz. When the two work on a school project together, they let down their guards, and the heart-breaking and life-affirming power of young love takes over.

Performance dates for “I and You” are Sept. 24 and 25.
