Child Endangerment Charges For Drunken Man, Injured Woman Found In Restroom: Des Plaines PD

A woman involved was found inside a store's restroom, where she had sustained a chin laceration from falling, along with the man and child.

DES PLAINES, IL — Two people were arrested last week and charged with child endangerment following an incident last week in the 800 block of Touhy Avenue. The arrests followed a suspicious circumstance report filed by a business, with Des Plaines police finding the pair, as well as a young child, inside a restroom at the establishment.

In addition to the child endangerment charge, Edgar Rea, 18, of South Elgin, is accused of aggravated driving under the influence, DUI with a blood alcohol concentration level of .08 or more. Allison Valencia, 19, of Chicago, is accused of the aforementioned child endangerment charge.

According to police, officers responded to the business at around 3:30 a.m. last Thursday. A store clerk said Rea exit the driver's side of a black Ford F-150 parked outside the business. The complainant saw an open container of alcohol inside the vehicle, as well as a unsecured child car seat.

Upon arrival, police found Valencia inside a restroom, where she had reportedly fallen, sustaining a chin laceration in the process. She was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police said Rea, who was showing signs of intoxication, was found by in the same restroom, along with a child.

Rea reportedly admitted to drinking and driving when questioned by police, and was taken into custody. Video surveillance confirmed he had arrived at the store in the Ford F-150, according to police.

Both Rea and Valencia were eventually released and given future court dates.
