Coffee Talk to focus on Potawatomi culture at Des Plaines History Center
Sharon Hoogstraten to present the Coffee Talk, "Potawatomi: Dancing With My Tribe," Thursday, January 28, from 1:30-2:30 p.m.

Potawatomi photographer Sharon Hoogstraten returns to the Des Plaines History Center, 781 Pearson Street, to present the Coffee Talk, “Potawatomi: Dancing With My Tribe,” Thursday, January 28, from 1:30-2:30 p.m. She was the guest speaker at a children’s program last summer.
Hoogstraten will talk about Potawatomi life and culture and will walk the audience through a slide show that features stunning photos of Native American men, women, and children dressed in their colorful regalia. She began taking formal pictures of various members of the Potawatomi Nation in 2010 and is thrilled that there is now a permanent photographic record.
Hoogstraten enjoys sharing her work and educating the public. She is on a mission to dispel stereotypes about widespread poverty and addiction on the reservation and inform others about the Potawatomis who are engineers, academics, lawyers, and National Honor Society members.
