Coffee Talk to track down history of Mexican railroad communities
Coffee Talk, "The History of Mexican Railroad Boxcar Communities in Chicago and the Midwest," Sept. 8.
The public is invited to the Coffee Talk, “The History of Mexican Railroad Boxcar Communities in Chicago and the Midwest,” Thursday, September 8, from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the Des Plaines History Center, 781 Pearson Street.
Chicago’s pivotal role as the railroad capital of the U.S. is well known, but the history of Mexicans who worked for Chicago area railroads and lived in railroad boxcars is not. Dr. Antonio Delgado will present this Coffee Talk, which is sponsored by the Illinois Humanities Road Scholars Speakers Bureau. $3 suggested donation.
While at the History Center, visitors are welcome to tour the 1907 Kinder House museum, view the display, “Des Plaines Architecture: An Exhibit about our Homes and City,” and listen to some taped interviews with firefighters in the current Des Plaines Fire Department exhibit.
