Oakton Community College and YWCA Evanston/North Shore host domestic violence workshop April 14
A domestic violence seminar at Oakton on April 14 will explore the profile and tactics of abusive men.

Oakton Community College, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines, will host a workshop on Thursday, April 14 that will provide the opportunity for social workers, professional counselors, marriage and family therapists, psychologists, and teachers to learn more about the potential consequences and treatment for children who live in a household where a man abuses their mother.
The seminar “When Dad Hurts Mom: Healing and Recovery in Children from the Effects of Domestic Violence,” presented by North Shore Family Violence Committee, will be held from 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. in Rooms 1604-1610. Oakton and YWCA Evanston/North Shore serve as sponsors for the event.
Lundy Bancroft, who has 25 years of experience in interventions for abusive men and their families, will facilitate the workshop. He will explain the profile and tactics of abusive men and examine ways for professionals to provide a road map for holding abusers accountable and for empowering, rather than blaming the mother. In addition, Bancroft will discuss practices for facilitating children’s safety, recovery, and healthy futures.
