Oakton men’s basketball rebounds against Wright College
Oakton captain Ryan Matthew scored 26 points in the Owls' 70-66 overtime road win over Wright College on Dec. 8.

Sophomore guard Ryan Matthew (Park Ridge, Maine South High School) scored a team-high 26 points as the Oakton Community College men’s basketball squad (4-7) ended a four-game losing skid by pulling out a 70-66 overtime road win over Wilbur Wright College on Thursday, Dec. 8.
The team captain scored 9 of the Owls’ 13 points in the extra frame. Matthew salted the game away draining two free throws with 2 seconds remaining in the contest. Freshman guard Tafari Beckford (Skokie, Niles North High School) and sophomore center Chris House (Chicago, Prospect High School) each tallied a double-double in the victory. Beckford collected 26 points and 10 rebounds, while House amassed 12 points and 10 rebounds.
“Ryan, Tafari and Chris competed hard on both ends and were able to win enough battles down the stretch for us to make the difference,” said Mick Reuter, Owls men’s head coach.

Oakton next competes at Black Hawk College-Moline on Thursday, Dec. 15. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m.
