October Meeting of the Des Plaines Art Guild

Jenny Learner will demonstrate encaustics at the next meeting of the Des Plaines Art Guild on Oct. 13th at 7pm at Prairie Lakes Comm. Ctr.

The next general meeting of the Des Plaines Art Guild (dpag.org) on Tuesday, October 13th at 7:00 pm will feature Jenny Learner demonstrating encaustics, painting with pigment and beeswax - where unexpected art accidents could be beautiful. The meeting takes place at Prairie Lakes Community Center, 515 E. Thacker Street in Des Plaines.

Jenny Learner is a multi-style decorative artist who is always trying new techniques and media. Her work expresses peace and beauty and a concern for our planet’s environmental future. Classically trained at the American Academy of Art, she is self-taught in interior and surface design and photography. She divides her time as a fine artist and teacher conducting lessons, workshops and demos and especially likes working with children and seniors. Jenny also creates on site-specific artwork such as mobiles, custom room dividers, screens, murals on canvas and floor cloths when working with interior designers and architects.

After an introduction to encaustic, she fell in love with the ancient medium of fusing fire with beeswax and pure pigment. The medium’s luminosity, transparency, aromatherapy, and alchemy constantly surprise her with the unexpected results they produce.
