• Des Plaines Lottery Player Wins $2 Million Scratch-Off Prize (patch.com) — A Des Plaines resident using the nickname "Lady Luck" won a $2 million top prize on a $20 scratch-off ticket bought at ZJ's Pantry Plus Liquors on North Wolf Road. She discovered the win in the store, plans to buy a house and take a New York City trip, and the Des Plaines retailer will receive a $20,000 bonus from the Illinois Lottery.

• Krishnamoorthi Unveils Nearly $5.8M For Suburban Infrastructure Projects (journal-topics.com) — Des Plaines is set to receive $1.8 million in federal funds for the next engineering phase of the Algonquin Road underpass at the Union Pacific tracks, a key step toward easing traffic and emergency response delays. At a press conference outside City Hall, Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi also announced millions more for nearby suburbs' water, road, and flooding projects that affect regional commuters and infrastructure.

• Huskies Drop Home Opener to Marquette (niuhuskies.com) — A Northern Illinois University men's soccer player from Des Plaines helped spark a comeback attempt in the Huskies' 4-2 home-opening loss to Marquette, narrowly missing an equalizer late. NIU had erased an early two-goal deficit before conceding twice more, and now looks ahead to hosting UIC in DeKalb on Sunday evening with free admission for fans.
