101 Degrees When Dog Found ‘Frantic’ In Car In Downers Grove: Cops

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Police say a dog was locked in a car which had a temperature of 101 degrees while its owner was in a nail salon in Downers Grove.

Officers got a call on Aug. 22 around 4:30 p.m. about a “distressed dog” inside a Mercedes Benz that had been parked in the 4900 block of Fairview Avenue for about 20 minutes. According to the Downers Grove crime blotter, an officer used a tool to determine the temperature inside the car was 101 degrees.

Police say they went into the nail salon and approached the owner, who told them she didn’t realize she had taken so long inside the nail salon. The officer asked the woman for her car keys and turned on her air conditioning.

She was issued a ticket for animal cruelty as a result of the incident.
