3 Downers Grove Baseball Players Go Pro

Three Downers Grove graduates have joined the Major Leagues.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Three Downers Grove alumni have recently signed on board to Major League Baseball teams. From Downers Grove North, Connor Kopach has joined the Seattle Mariners and Nic Laio has signed on with the Texas Rangers. Downers Grove South alum Zac Taylor has been drafted by the Minnesota Twins, according to Prep Baseball Report.

Kopach, who played shortstop at DGN before attending Southern Illinois University, was picked up in the draft's 25th round. Laio, a right-handed pitcher, was scooped up by the Rangers in the 20th round, according to MLB Live, and Taylor, another a right-handed pitcher, by the Twins in the 36th round.

Kopach's pro career got off to a soaring start with a solo home run on June 17 that earned him a public shoutout on the Mariners's Twitter page.

At just 23, Kopach, like Laio and Taylor, could expect to have a long and successful career ahead of him.
