Happy Dog Barkery is hosting their 9th Annual Doggie Scavenger Hunt on Sunday, October 22nd from 11pm-4pm. Dogs (and their humans) get a sheet of clues they need to solve that will lead them to a course of hidden boxes of treats throughout the downtown. Over 350 dogs (and their humans) are expected at this year’s event.

This event requires registration to reserve a space and to ensure we have enough treats out for all the dogs attending.

Beth Staley, owner of Happy Dog Barkery states “This event is one of our favorites of the year. Each year we change the course and have new challenges for both the dogs and their humans. We try and get creative and incorporate a theme to the course.”
This year the theme is Backyard BBQ challenge. At most stops there is a challenge to complete that have a backyard games theme. Nothing too hard or too physical, everyone wins since this is all for FUN!

One of the highlights are a dog agility and croquet course combined, Croque-agility and a Halloween photo opportunity. All dogs receive a goodie bag and will collect treasures throughout the hunt. Participating vendors include Enjoy Your Dog, Ewegurt, Honest Kitchen, Lotus Dog Foods, Open Farm Pet Food. All participants are entered to win raffle prizes too!

Pictures from last year’s event can be viewed here: http://tinyurl.com/ybf3wu6e. More details on this year’s event at or to register: www.happydogbarkery.com/events. Cost is $9.00 per dog. A portion of the proceeds for this years event will go to MidAmerica Service Dogs. The mission of MidAmerica Service Dogs' Foundation, Inc. is to obtain, provide, and train service dogs for children and adults with mobility disabilities so their lives may be enhanced and they may benefit from the loyalty, friendship, and independence their service dogs provide. www.midamericadogsfoundation.org.
Local entrepreneurs and sisters Beth and Cheryl Staley left jobs in corporate America in 2004 with the goal of working with their own pets and owning their own business. Beth Staley was motivated by her own dog’s allergies. A baker since childhood, her Labrador Retriever Payton, was suffering from severe food allergies and there seemed to be no existing healthy treats on the market for Payton so Beth created recipes of her own that were safe for Payton to eat. That led to the opening of Happy Dog Barkery in April 2004.

Thirteen years later, located in the heart of downtown Downers Grove, Happy Dog Barkery still specializes in baked dog and cat goods, made on premises, for our four-legged friends—including finicky and ingredient-allergic pets.

Happy Dog Barkery has been voted one the best dog retailers by the Downers Grove Reporter, Chicagoland Tails and West Suburban Living Magazine. Beth has been featured on newscasts on NBC, WGN and Fox32, both for the bakery and her rescue work involving Kale Chips, the 86lb beagle who lost over 40lbs. Happy Dog and Kale Chips have also been featured in the Wall Street Journal, People Magazine and The Doctors TV Show.
Happy Dog Barkery is located in Chicago’s western suburb, Downers Grove, at 5118 Main Street in the heart of the historic downtown. Further information on the store is available at www.happydogbarkery.com, at (630) 512-0822 or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/happydogbarkery.
