Advocate Good Samaritan to celebrate Senior Fitness Day May 30

The Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital Health and Wellness Center welcomes area seniors to celebrate National Senior Health & Fitness Day

DOWNERS GROVE - The Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital Health and Wellness Center in Downers Grove welcomes area seniors to a celebration of National Senior Health & Fitness Day Wednesday, May 30, for a free day of healthy activities.

The center will highlight some of its many classes geared toward seniors through free center access to all seniors.

"We commonly hear from our members 'If we didn't keep moving with the help of the Wellness Center I am not sure I would accomplish what I wanted in life,'" says Laura Tarry, the center's fitness manager. "We feel very fortunate to work with people of all ages as they strive to remain happy, healthy and active."

Steve Gasser, fitness specialist at the Wellness Center, says staying active at any age helps boost energy, maintain a healthy weight and can lower your risk of heart disease, diabetes, heart disease and even dementia.

Seniors interested in joining the center will also have their activation fee waived if they join during the senior fitness celebration. There will also be a drawing to win a three-month free membership. Health screenings from 6:30 – 9:30 am. Representatives will be on hand from health insurance and financial planning companies.

Class opportunities on Wednesday, May 30, include:

• Aqua Express – This mixed-level class efficiently combines a cardio component and muscle conditioning component in one express workout. 9:30 to 10:15 am; 12:15 to 1:00 pm
• Gentle Flow Yoga – Focus is on stress relief, relaxation, flexibility and strength. Leave class feeling strong, flexible, peaceful and refreshed! 10:15 – 11:10 am
• Mature Strength – Staying strong is important at every age. Build bone density and lean muscle mass following age appropriate guidelines. 11:15 am – 12:10 pm
• Agility for Life – Enhance your agility of both body and mind in this strength and balance format. 12;15 – 1:00 pm
• Aqua Tone – Improve balance and coordination with a variety of controlled movements in a warm water pool. Aquatic equipment will be used. 1:10 to 1:55 pm; 2 to 2:45 pm; 6 to 6:45 pm.
• Sit & Fit – Get fit from your seat rather than your feet utilizing personal resistance and light weights. 3:00 to 3:45 pm
• Power Aqua Circuit – Alternate cardio and strength segments for a heart pumping workout in the lap pool. 4:30 to 5:15 pm
