Automoblog

Offers the best information on buying cars.

Automoblog's latest article dives into the truth behind car gifting during the holidays. With multiple sales events, and the pervasive image of a big red bow in your driveway, gifting cars for the holiday isn't all that common. Plus, it's not recommended this year. Here's what we found:

  • Gifting a car for the holidays is a concept dating back only 20 years.
  • Lexus is credited with introducing the idea in 1999 with its "December to Remember" sales event.
  • Car sales do tend to increase in December: auto sales were 8.28% higher than average monthly sales between 2005-2021.
  • December sales skew towards luxury cars, like BMW, Lexus, Lincoln, and Mercedes.
  • People do indeed gift cars during December, based on dealership observations.
  • Regardless of the phenomenon, this year is not the ideal time to buy a car

Automoblog is a grassroots automotive industry news, culture, and lifestyle publication since 2006. Car reviews, guides, advice, technology, and more.
