Beloved Downers Grove Sports Announcer Dies From Coronavirus

Jim Mizener, 78, announced games at Downers Grove North and South for more than 40 years.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A beloved Downers Grove sports announcer has died after a battle with coronavirus. Jim Mizener, 78, died Saturday, according to Suburban Life.

Mizener had been an announcer for Downers Grove South and North for more than 40 years. He announced basketball, football, volleyball and soccer, in addition to other sports.

Mizener was inducted into the Downers South Hall of Fame in 2005.

After news of Mizener's death broke, dedications poured in on Twitter.

According to Suburban Life, Mizener's wife was also hospitalized with coronavirus, but has since recovered.
