Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital awards 2nd quarter MVP winners

2nd Quarter MVP Winners at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital

Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital is proud to present the 2012 MVP 2nd Quarter Winners. The following associates demonstrated hard work and strong leadership within their departments. Their stories are filled with integrity, passion and expertise. MVP winners not only change lives, but make those around them honored to be in their presence. The winners are associate-nominated leaders who, through their actions, have inspired and humbled their teams.

Compassion Award: Fran Wilk, clinician III nurse in the Critical Care Unit (CCU), goes above and beyond when caring for her patients and the patient’s families. She was asked to do a speech for a memorial service for families of organ donors and immediately accepted. Wilk spoke spontaneously and directly from her spirit. She was poised, calm and personal. Many at this service found her words to be comforting and felt like this service helped them feel a sense of closure. She was truly a shining highlight of the service and her work in the CCU is greatly appreciated.

Stewardship Award: Cindy Martinez accepts any challenges that come her way while working at the hospital’s café. Martinez stepped up out of her comfort zone to handle an emergency situation. She took the initiative to cover shifts that a co-worker could not and filled in as a cook which includes excellent time management skills and is very difficult even for those accustomed to working it on a routine basis.

His clinical clarity and knowledge of best practices have been instrumental in creating a good standard approach to prepare and recover all patients who receive anesthesia. He ensures positive patient outcomes by participating in many quality initiatives and committees. Dr. Martucci is always accessible as a resource to address patient care questions or concerns. He has been an outstanding partner with nurses as well as other hospital disciplines and committees.

Excellence Award: Patti Mealer is dedicated to her patients in the Progressive Care Unit. She is commended for her astute, accurate and timely assessment. She trusts her instincts and uses her critical thinking skills allowed to save a patient and gave him a different outcome. Mealer’s actions in this case are just one of the many examples of her commitment to excellence in patient care.
